Description
Truth Teller Valanah Smith became a youth activist engaged in the protests in Ferguson following the shooting of Michael Brown Jr. Valanah was harassed and arrested by police for protesting. Her story illustrates how her passion for justice became the impetus for understanding racialized violence and social justice.

Explain to participants that they will view Valanah’s testimony and that you will pause the video for a “stop and discuss” process at points where questions emerge. Allow for discussion and continue viewing her story.

Write a journal entry that explores a social justice issue that you feel passionate about. Make a list of 5 ways you could participate as an active citizen in your community to bring attention to your cause. Select one idea and design a poster to invite people to attend your event aimed to confront the issue.
